Whale Craft Stick Project
Make a friendly popsicle stick whale with this fun and easy ocean-themed craft for kids! Perfect for summer, classroom displays, or pretend play.
Materials
- 3 jumbo popsicle sticks
- Blue acrylic paint
- Blue construction paper
- White construction paper
- Black marker
- Glue stick or tape

Instructions
- Gather your supplies and protect your workspace.
- Paint three of the sticks blue. Let them dry all the way...yes, all the way. Patience is a virtue. (Or just hit them with a hair dryer.)
- Cut one of the painted sticks in half. This will create the whale’s signature step-like forehead.
- Lay the unpainted stick and the remaining full-length blue stick horizontally, then glue the three shorter pieces on top to form a blocky curve. This is your whale’s noggin.
- Cut out the tail, a top fin, and a side fin from the blue construction paper. Then cut a small white circle for the eye.
- Glue the tail to the back of your whale, the top fin on the top edge, and the side fin tucked underneath. Add your white circle eye.
- Use a black marker to draw a happy little smile and a dot in the eye. Go for whale-y cheerful.
- Show off your new sea creature! Stick it on a bulletin board, pair it with an ocean unit, or let your kids swim it around while making the best whale sound effects they can come up with.
