How to Make a Paper Plate Seahorse Craft

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Set out everything from the list above so it's all within reach once little hands get going.

Step 2: Paint the Plate
Paint the outside of the plate purple and let it dry, adding a second coat if needed.

Step 3: Cut the Body
Print the seahorse pattern, trace the body shape onto the plate, and cut it out.

Step 4: Cut the Coronet
Trace and cut a coronet from yellow cardstock, feel free to swap in whatever colors you have on hand for this one.

Step 5: Attach the Coronet
Glue the coronet to the back of the seahorse's head.

Step 6: Draw the Body Outline
Using the reference photo as a guide, outline the body and draw the coiled tail with the black marker. This freehand tail is the trickiest part, so it can help to sketch it lightly in pencil first before going over it in marker.

Step 7: Add the Eye
Add the wiggle eye to the head.

Step 8: Stamp On a Cheek
Dip a fresh pencil eraser into pink paint and stamp a cheek just under the eye, then let dry.

Step 9: Add the Pom Pom Spines
Glue bright green pom poms along the seahorse's body, buttons or sequins work too, if that's what you've got.

Step 10: Draw the Smile
Finish with a black marker smile.
All done!
Your paper plate seahorse is ready to swim!
