Instructions

  1. Gather your supplies. Turtle craft supplies: green paper, 3 craft sticks, green acrylic paint, brush, scissors, black marker, and glue.
  2. Paint all three craft sticks green. Let them dry completely so you don’t end up with fingerprints that look like swamp monsters. three popsicle sticks painted green
  3. Arrange the sticks into a triangle shape with the point facing down. This is your turtle’s shell. Glue or tape the corners securely so it holds together. Popsicle sticks arranged into a triangle shape.
  4. Cut out your turtle parts from green construction paper. Construction paper pieces cut into turtle flippers, head, tail, and eyes.
  5. Glue the turtle parts to the back of the triangle: head at the top, flippers on the sides and bottom corners, and tail tucked underneath. Add the white paper eyes to the head and draw on black pupils and a little smile with your marker. Paper pieces glued behind the triangle to make a turtle shape.
  6. Flip it over and meet your new favorite triangle. He’s happy. He’s huggable (well, almost). He’s totally ready to swim into your next bulletin board or storytime session. Completed turtle craft with large cartoon-style eyes.

Make It More Than a Craft

This triangle turtle has a lot more going on than just a cute face. Here’s how to bring the learning full circle:

1. Shape + animal crossover: Perfect for reinforcing triangles while learning about turtles. It's math meets science with a smile.

2. Habitat exploration: Talk about where turtles live. Ocean? Pond? Muddy puddle in the backyard? Let your kids decide and then create a scene around it.

3. Creative storytelling: Give each turtle a name and a job. Is it Speedy the Lifeguard? Granny Myrtle who teaches sea yoga? Have kids craft a mini story to match.

4. Group mural time: Make a whole turtle crew, each with different shell colors or patterns. Then build a big paper pond or ocean to display them all.
