As a parent, I know how important it is for my kids to keep learning over the summer. I know they’ll be bored if they don’t have organized activities and valuable learning experiences to keep them busy. That’s why it’s fun to have them complete these free printable tracing worksheets that will keep them busy while also keeping their scissor skills sharp.
Do you want to teach your preschooler this summer without spending a lot of money on new materials, but still get them learning and having fun?
You're in luck! I've got just the thing for you.
Tracing lines is an activity that's great for developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It also helps with shape recognition and formation as well as figuring out just how your hands and muscles work when you're drawing. This activity is perfect for those hot summer days when you don't want to spend too much time outside in the heat.
My summer tracing worksheets are great for preschoolers learning to write. Prewriting skills are so important in their developing brains, so lets get those little dashed lines out, and practice tracing.
These shape tracing worksheets are perfect for summer because they have the MOST adorable summer art on them, which we have in all of the printables we have given out this week. They feel so summery, with seashells, sea stars, and sand dollars.
We don't live anywhere near the beach, so it's fun to find little ways to bring the beach into our lives again.

Tracing Cards Printable, How to Prepare:
As always, I recommend putting all of this together ahead of time to keep the unnecessary chaos out of our lives. New things, like this printable are so exciting for kids, so it's hard to keep their wiggles under control. That's normal. So I like to get all of the laminating out of the way before I bring this out to them.
Let's keep that chaos out of our life and just prepare this ahead of time. I like to print everything the night before, laminate them, and have everything ready to go when I bring this out to my children for usage.
For these cards it's pretty easy, they're pretty much print and go, but if you'd like to add some longevity to them, you can of course laminate them and use markers. Once you have them, you can print as many times as you need though.

–A laminator– If you want to keep these printables around as long as you can, so I recommend laminating the pages so you can get the most use out of them. If you plan to use these for scissor skills, then there is no need to laminate them.
-Scissors- I have always had a difficult time with letting my kids use scissors, but since my son has been home for preschool this year, we have embraced the scissor skills, even though I'm still genuinely terrified he will find them and cut off his beautiful curly hair. We all fear kids with scissors, right?

-gather supplies: your pages, laminator and / or scissors.
-laminate all the pages if you'd like to use markers or crayons
-give your child scissors if you plan to use them for fine motor scissor skills.

How to Use Your New Tracing Lines Worksheets
These summertime tracing worksheets were created with the idea that they would be used with markers, so the way that I would use them with my family is with markers. There are lots of different ways to use them though, and you can ask your child which way they would prefer too.
Another way you can use those fine motor skill is to trace them with your fingers, or different sized markers, as well as crayons, or dry erase markers.
Your child can match the tracing to the color of the objects around them. so the pink shells you would use a pink marker, and so on.
I love to let my kids take the lead with printables, and tell me how they would like to interact with it. I've learned so much from letting them see the products as I am making them, and they help me shape them into something I wouldn't have thought of.
Summer Tracing Shapes Printable Memory Game – Made Easier
You can make these work younger kids, you can talk about the pictures, and she spapes around them. I love how everything fits so nicely. So you can identify what shape you see in each image, and talk about what each shape or image is, and how to sound out the name of each shape, or each beach object.
Name an object, and have your child show you where it is in front of you. When they name the object correctly, they can trace the line connecting them, or they can trace the shape around it.
This printable is great for fine motor skills, but it's also SUPER awesome at identifying and tracing shapes, we love talking these things out with my four year old. I have noticed my eight year old take the reins here and talk over shapes with my four year old also.
Adapt Summer Tracing Shapes Worksheets For Preschoolers – Made Harder
My daughter suggested that we use the printable to talk about shapes more. How would you draw a pentagon? This shape has sunglasses inside of it, but how would you draw glasses that were actually pentagons?
Another cool way to use these is by having your child create a beach scene, using the shapes they cut out.
I love encouraging their creativity, and getting them to create a picture based on four little pieces is a great way to do that.
Other Ways to Learn with Printable Tracing Lines Worksheet
The thing I love about these tracing lines worksheets is how much my kids love them. We encourage a lot of questions and discussions, and the adorable art on these encourages lots of questions. Have you ever seen a shell look like this? Is that an octopus? What do you think their family looks like?
What is the name of this?
Oh, a sun? What do you know about the sun? Do you know any songs about the sun? Maybe we can ask Alexa if she knows any fun facts about the sun!
There are so many different ways to bring learning into your every day life with your child. I love finding new ways to do just that.
What Will Kids Learn?
Fine motor skills and scissor skills, if that's how you decide to use them. I love using these as just tracing lines worksheets, but I also love them as tracing shapes worksheets. My kids are huge fans of the cute art, so it leads to lots of discussions, and what they think about certain things.
It's an important prewriting skill to be able to trace lines, and learn how to move the writing utencils with your hands correctly, so work with your child on correct hand placement (which is important for lefties like my son, who tend to wrap their hand around so they can see the words as they are writing) and you'll LOVE this printable for your kids!

The thing I love about printables for preschoolers is how it helps them use their ands to interact with letters, numbers, and shapes. I love when they can cut up papers, or squish play doh between their fingers. I began this journey to create more for my preschooler so I could keep him occupied without putting a screen in front of his face.
