How to Make a Paper Plate Rake and Leaves Craft

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Gather everything on the list above before you start.

Step 2: Cut the Paper Plate
Fold the paper plate in half, then in half again. Cut the plate into quarters with scissors.

Step 3: Paint the Rake Head
Paint the outside of one paper plate quarter gray. Let it dry and add a second coat if needed.

Step 4: Paint the Handle
Paint a jumbo craft stick medium green. Let it dry and add a second coat if needed.

Step 5: Trace the Leaves and Neck
Print the rake and leaves patterns and cut them out. Trace one of the five leaf shapes once each onto orange, yellow, green, burgundy, and brown cardstock. Trace the rake neck onto brown cardstock. You could also use colored craft foam, construction paper, or felt.

Step 6: Cut Out the Pieces
Cut out the leaves and rake neck, cutting just inside the traced lines for a clean finish.

Step 7: Color the Leaves
Using the photo as a guide, outline and draw veins on each leaf with a matching washable marker.

Step 8: Build the Rake
Glue the craft stick handle to the rake head with the glue gun. Glue the rake neck where the handle and head meet.

Step 9: Cut the Prongs
Cut between the ridges of the paper plate to make the rake prongs.

Step 10: Attach the Rake
Glue the rake onto a piece of tan cardstock. Tip: You can use liquid craft glue instead, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

Step 11: Add the Foam Tape
Stick a piece of foam tape to the back of each leaf. Foam adhesive dots or squares work too.

Step 12: Add the Leaves
Peel the backing off the foam tape and stick the leaves around the tan cardstock in a random pattern.

Step 13: Draw the Details
Finish by drawing the details on the rake head with a black permanent marker.
