Paper Plate Apple Basket Craft for Kids
Apple picking day always turns into a debate about who gets to carry the basket, so I finally let everyone make their own with this paper plate apple basket craft. The rim gets a woven look just from folding strips back and forth, no actual weaving skills required, and a handful of paper apples tuck right inside when it's done.

How to Make a Paper Plate Apple Basket Craft
Let's get into it, here's how this one goes from plate to finished craft.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Gather your supplies and clear a workspace, this is a good one to do over a wipeable table or some newspaper.
Step 2: Paint the Plate
Paint the inside of the plate dark brown and let it dry completely.
Step 3: Trace the Basket
Print the basket pattern and trace it onto the inside of the dry plate.
Step 4: Cut Out the Basket
Cut along the traced lines to cut out the basket and its handle.
Step 5: Cut the Weaving Strips
Cut 7 to 8 strips of dark brown cardstock, each about a half inch wide and 11 inches long.
Step 6: Weave the Basket
Starting at the top of the basket, glue the strips across the plate from one flat edge to the other, leaving a little gap between each one so it reads as woven. It looks fussy in photos but it's really just gluing straight lines.
Step 7: Trim the Edges
Trim off any cardstock hanging past the plate's edge.
Step 8: Trace the Apples and Leaves
Trace five stems onto light brown cardstock, five leaves onto medium green, one apple onto light green, two apples onto red, and two more onto burgundy.
Step 9: Cut Out the Apples and Leaves
Cut out every apple, leaf, and stem.
Step 10: Assemble Each Apple
Glue a stem and leaf onto each apple.
Step 11: Fill the Basket
Either glue the apples into the basket to keep them put, or leave them loose so your kids can rearrange their harvest as many times as they want.
All done!
Then hang your finished apple basket on display!
We'd love to see yours! Snap a photo and share it in the comments.
