How to Make a Santa Magic Key with Craft Sticks
This part is simple, festive, and very doable, even if your crafting table already looks like a holiday explosion. Take it one step at a time and it all comes together smoothly.
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
Lay out all of your materials so everything is within reach before you start building.
Step 2: Build the popsicle stick key base.
To create the base of each key, line up two jumbo craft sticks side by side on your work surface. Cut additional craft sticks to length and attach them across the back with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Step 3: Add the key teeth.
Using scissors, cut five regular craft sticks in half. Glue three halves to the end of each key as the teeth.
Step 4: Paint the keys and teeth.
Using red, bright green, and medium green acrylic craft paint, basecoat the keys and the teeth in assorted colors. Let dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
If the first coat looks streaky, don’t panic. Wood can be thirsty and sometimes needs that second coat.
Step 5: Paint the wooden snowflakes.
Basecoat three wooden snowflakes with white acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat if necessary.
Step 6: Print the magic key patterns.
Download and print the magic key patterns onto white cardstock.
Step 7: Trace the circle pattern onto colored cardstock.
Cut out the circle pattern, then trace it once onto red cardstock, once onto bright green cardstock, and once onto medium green cardstock with a pencil.
Step 8: Cut out the cardstock circles.
Cut out the traced circles with scissors, making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.
Step 9: Cut out the Santa’s Magic Key words.
Carefully cut out the SANTA’S MAGIC KEY words from the pattern sheet using scissors.
Step 10: Attach the snowflakes to the cardstock circles.
Attach the three snowflakes to the three circles of cardstock with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Step 11: Glue the Santa’s Magic Key words onto the keys.
Glue the SANTA’S MAGIC KEY words onto the base of each key.
Step 12: Attach the snowflake circles to the keys.
Adhere the snowflake circles to the base of the key, mixing up the colors.
Step 13: Add the rhinestones.
Attach self-adhesive rhinestones to the center and six arms of each snowflake.
Step 14: Add glitter glue details and let dry.
Draw lines of glitter glue on each snowflake ornament, then set aside to dry completely.
Step 15: Display your Santa Magic Key.
Once everything is completely dry, place the magic key somewhere Santa will easily spot it, like near the front door, on a hook, or by the Christmas tree!
