This paper cup monster craft for toddlers is a great activity to do when you're stuck inside on a rainy day, or when you freshly pull out of all those fun Halloween decorations that your children desperately want to play with, but you don't want them to wreck.
This is the perfect time to make a little monster they can play with all they want.
My favorite part is that you can make it as unique to your child as you want, depending on your child. We just moved to Knoxville, so orange is our way of life, but my youngest made his blue, my middle child chose a green monster, and my daughter has a really beautiful yellow monster.
The cool thing about creating fictional creatures is you can literally do anything you want.
Give them free rein to be creative! Let them choose their favorite colors and decorations. Once everything is glued down, they can proudly display their masterpiece on the mantle, or along the windowsills.
Don't forget to give them a name! The names my kid's came up with are Shawn, Bluey, and Pikachu.
Prepare Your Halloween Craft for Preschoolers
First, you'll want to start by painting your paper cups. You can use any color you would like, but in my house we believe monsters look best in bright and bold hues. You'll see the guy we are showing you today is bright orange!

I'm all for letting kids innovate with these crafts. So if it makes your life easier and your kids are old enough to be trusted with scissors (or you're understanding that you'll have a lot to clean up later!) let them take the reins.
Step By Step Guide to Creating Your Paper Cup Monster Craft
Give your monster some personality. Cut out mouths, add eyebrows, silly colors, felt horns, ears, or arms.

Materials
- Paper Cup
- Googly Eyes
- Black Construction Paper
- Double Sided Tape
- Orange Paint
- Orange Yarn
- Craft Sticks
Tools
- Glue Gun
- Paint Brush
- Glue (stick or white glue)
- Scissors
Instructions
- Cut the top lip off the cup
- Cut yarn into small one inch long strips
- Paint the cup orange, don't forget the bottom.
- Flip the cup so the bottom is on top. Working in small chunks, add hot glue, then press the yarn into the glue working from the wide bottom up to the top. Do not add yarn to the top of your monster.
- Make two holes (I prefer slits) in the top of your monster, on the right and left.
- Add googly eyes to the top of your craft sticks, then push them into the slits you cut into the top of your monster.
- Make a mouth out of the black paper, I did this by cutting a wide oval, and adding six triangle shapes.
- Attach the mouth at the front of your monster (where the eyes are facing) and you're done!
Notes
Tips:
Be extra careful with scissors and hot glue around little hands. If it makes you more comfortable, feel free to use regular white glue.
Let your creativity flow here! You are free to change colors, paint the craft sticks, or add extra eyes. The choice is yours! I love seeing what my little's create after I show them the instructions, it's always fun and unique!
