How to Make Paper Plate Shamrocks
This project is completed in simple, clear steps. Encourage your child to help with tracing, cutting, and painting to build confidence and independence.
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Gather your supplies. Make sure all materials are within reach and your workspace is protected before beginning.
Step 2: Paint the Paper Plates
Basecoat the inside of three paper plates. Paint one plate light green, one medium green, and one dark green using acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry completely and apply a second coat if needed.
Step 3: Trace the Shamrock Pattern
Download and print the shamrock pattern. Cut it out with scissors. Trace the shamrock shape onto each of the painted paper plates using a pencil.
Step 4: Cut Out the Shamrocks
Cut out the three shamrocks, making sure to cut just inside the traced lines for a clean finished edge.
Step 5: Add Dots to the Medium Green Shamrock
Using a round sponge dauber and dark green acrylic craft paint, stamp dots across the surface of the medium green shamrock. Set aside to dry.
Tip: You can also use crayons, colored pencils, markers, or paint sticks to apply patterns.
Pair your clovers with some cute St. Patrick's Day Bookmarks.
Step 6: Paint Vertical Lines on the Light Green Shamrock
Using a paintbrush and medium green acrylic craft paint, apply vertical lines across the light green shamrock. Set aside to dry.
Step 7: Add Horizontal Lines for Plaid
Once dry, paint horizontal lines from top to bottom of the light green shamrock using medium green paint to create a plaid pattern. Set aside to dry.
Step 8: Paint Diagonal Stripes on the Dark Green Shamrock
Using a paintbrush and light green acrylic craft paint, apply diagonal lines across the dark green shamrock. Set aside to dry.
Step 9: Outline the Designs
Outline the dots and diagonal stripes with a black permanent marker. Accent the plaid shamrock by adding black plaid lines with the marker.
Then hang your beautiful shamrocks up on display!
