How to Make a Paper Plate American Flag Craft

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Get your supplies together first, especially anything that needs to dry, so you're not waiting around later.

Step 2: Trace the Flag Pattern
Print and cut out the flag pattern, then trace it onto the inside of the plate.

Step 3: Paint the Star Field and Stripes
Paint the star field section blue and every other stripe red, letting each dry and adding a second coat if needed.

Step 4: Add the Button Stripes
Glue red buttons onto the red painted stripes, rhinestones, sequins, or pom poms work too if that's what you've got on hand.

Step 5: Add the Lace Stripes
Glue white cotton lace onto the remaining white stripes and trim off any extra hanging past the edges. Glitter foam, chenille stems, yarn, or floss are all fine substitutes here.

Step 6: Cut the Stars
Trace the star pattern three times onto the back of the glitter foam and cut the stars out.

Step 7: Attach the Stars
Peel the backing off each star and press them firmly onto the blue field, this is the step that turns it from a painted plate into a keepsake.
All done!
Your American flag is ready to wave!
