Step-by-Step Guide to Making Chamomile Tea Playdough

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Gather your supplies and measure out your ingredients.

Step 2: Brew the Chamomile Tea

Boil about a cup of water and pour it over two chamomile tea bags. Let them steep for 5–7 minutes, then remove the tea bags and let the tea cool until it’s warm, not hot. Save one tea bag for later.

Step 3: Add the Flour

Add 1 cup of flour to a large bowl.

Step 4: Add the Salt and Cream of Tartar

Add 1/4 cup of salt and 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar, and mix the dry ingredients together.

Step 5: Add the Tea, Oil, and Chamomile

Stir 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into about 1/2 cup of the cooled tea, then gradually pour it into the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough begins to form. Open the saved tea bag and sprinkle the chamomile into the dough for a fun texture.

Step 6: Knead the Dough

Knead the dough on a floured surface until it’s smooth, soft, and pliable, not sticky. If it’s too wet, add a bit more flour; if it’s too dry, sprinkle in a little water.

All done!

Then play!

Storing Chamomile Tea Playdough

Store your chamomile tea playdough in an airtight container or zip-top bag to keep it soft and fragrant. If it starts to dry out, knead in a few drops of water or leftover tea.

Bringing Chamomile Tea Playdough Into Playtime

The gentle chamomile scent and speckled texture make this a soothing sensory activity, perfect for quiet time or winding down. Squeezing and rolling the dough builds hand strength and fine motor skills, and playing side by side encourages sharing and conversation.
