Paper Plate Duck Craft for Preschoolers

This paper plate duck craft is so easy you can have your preschooler (or preschool classroom!) create their very own. I love this craft because it's fun and easy, and ignites their creativity.
Below you'll find a step by step guide to show you how I created this craft with my kids and then you can create them however your little would like!
Perhaps I should have stopped before adding the eyelids, but it looks like it was missing something. Feel free to take all the creative freedoms you need with this one.
Let's get started.

How to Make the Paper Plate Duck Craft

Step 1: Gather your supplies
Gather all of your materials.

Step 2: Paint the plate yellow
Begin by painting the entire paper plate with lemon yellow acrylic paint. This will be the base of your duck’s face. Be sure to let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Print and cut the template
Next, print and cut out the template provided. You can use this template to cut out the different parts of your duck from construction paper. Refer to the craft photo to see which colors to use for each part.

Step 4: Paint the crown and draw the eyes
Once you’ve cut out all the pieces, use your paintbrush to paint the duck’s crown with the lemon yellow acrylic paint. Then, use a pen to draw on the duck’s eyes. Leave a white spot for highlights.

Step 5: Add the beak and eyes
When the paint has dried completely, it’s time to add the parts to the paper plate. Start by attaching the duck’s beak to the center of the paper plate. Add the eyes to the top of the beak, and add the second part of the beak underneath.

Step 6: Add the eyelids
Next, cut a curved shape with a flat base out of orange construction paper. This will be the duck’s eyelids. Attach it to the upper area of the duck’s eyes using stick glue, making sure it’s positioned just right to give your duck a cute, whimsical look.

Step 7: Attach the crown
Finally, attach the crown to the top of the paper plate behind the duck’s head, using stick glue to hold it in place.
All done!
For a finishing touch, use a pen or marker to draw a border around the edge of the duck’s face.

We'd love to see yours! Snap a photo and share it in the comments.
