Why Every Mom Needs a Daily Planner

Sharing is caring!

I am obsessed with planners, journals, and all stationery. Introducing a daily planner into your routine can dramatically change your life.

Organization isn't really my strong suit. I've always struggled with creating and maintaining habits or achieving goals or remembering the last time I gave my child a bath.

Enter my daily planner. I didn't realize what I was missing in my life, and I don't think I'll ever go back to my life before.

This all started when I read an article about the real reason three kids are more stressful than any other amount of children.

Basically, Kelly expresses it's the mental bookkeeping of three children that gives us the most stress. You can remember things when you have two children or one child, but once you get that third, your brain turns to mush.

As a mom of three, I can't agree with this more. I actually have that article in my bookmarks to look at every few months to remind myself it's not me, it's them.

But that's not what this article is about.

Okay, back to daily planners.

Why Should Moms Get a Planner?

You're a mom, not a student. Maybe even a stay at home mom.

What could you possibly need a planner for?

Remember when we talked about your brain not being able to remember all those things?

When you write something down, you're giving your brain permission to put it on the back burner and focus on something else.

What are Planners Good For?

  1. Increase Your Organization
  2. Stop Forgetting Things
  3. Reduce Your Stress
  4. Ignite Your Creativity
  5. Get More Done
  6. Remembering to Put Your Kindergartener in a Red Shirt Today for Spirit Week

What do all of those things have in common? They allow your brain to focus on the now and stop worrying you're forgetting something.

How Do Stay at Home Moms Get Organized?

We often feel as stay at home moms we should just have all the answers, and be able to remember everything, and take care of everyone.

It sounds pretty stressful if you ask me.

Here is my morning routine as a SAHM, along with the tools you need to create your morning routine.

It's okay to say “I need a hand”, or “I need a break”, or even “my brain will explode if I hear ‘mommy!' one more time!”

Self-Care is not selfish.

So, how do you stay organized as a stay at home mom? Get a daily planner?

Why a Daily Planner?

In short . . . weekly isn't enough.

You might see some improvement in your life, but daily is the secret sauce of productivity.

The key here is taking your life into your hands every day. Not glancing at it once a week.

What you schedule is what gets done.

How Do I Stay Organized With a Daily Planner?

You can achieve planner success. Here are a few tips for finding the success you're looking for.

Keep it With You

Take your planner with you everywhere, so it's always at the tip of your fingers.

With kids, it's tough having something in your hands all day, so get a cute bag you can throw over your shoulder, and keep handy.

Write Everything Down

This is how you get the most out of your planner.

Writing everything down means you don't have to keep it in your brain, and you can quickly and easily access all of this information.

Since you'll be keeping it with you, you'll be sure you don't double book yourself or miss out on something important.

I can't be the only one who forgot to put my children in Holiday Socks this year for the week leading up to break, right?

Make a Master List

Kiss the thousands of unorganized post-it notes goodbye.

But if you love post-its as I do, you can still use them. Add them in on your notes page, or directly on the page.

Anyway, I love lists. Some people like lists, but I create lists about lists to show my love of lists.

I use the notes pages on planners to cultivate my ultimate list of things to remember.

It has everything from changing the air filter to buying a new water filter for my fridge, and remember to cancel a subscription after getting my discounted month.

You can also use the notes page to tease out smaller tasks to achieve your bigger goals.

Break Down Bigger Goals

It had to be its own heading because it's so important.

Use your daily planner to cut those big goals into smaller bite-sized goals. When we look at these huge goals we want to achieve, we can easily feel overwhelmed and want to give up.

This is where our daily planner can help. We can break those goals into smaller goals, and work up the momentum to find great success.

The more you win, no matter how small, the more motivated you are to win more.

Schedule Your Time

This is a big benefit of a daily, you can schedule your day into blocks. Instead of wasting your day.

Time blocking will give your day more structure and help you get things done. Basically, it's dedicating a certain block of time for one thing, like creating blog posts. When the time is up, you move on to something else, like spending time with your family.

This encourages you to get multiple things done a day, and still make time for other more important things.

Create a Top 3 Every Day

The thing about goal setting is we so often think we can do way more than we actually can.

By picking three things to prioritize, you can hyper-focus on those three things, one at a time, until they're done.

Daily Planner Open With Top Three

You'll feel like you've accomplished a lot because you achieved your goals for the day.

In addition to that, we can knock those goals out first thing in the morning and open up the rest of our day.

Anyone can achieve three things a day.

What is the Best Planner for Moms?

I've seen a lot of planners that are “for moms”, and basically just add in a place for you to put your kid's pediatrician's number.

I'd much rather have a planner that is made to help me achieve goals.

Mom planners are great, but you're more than just a mom.

My favorite planner that I just found a few months ago, is the Life & Apples Growth Planner. Here is a short video showing it off.
